Who is Kingston Mutual Aid?
The Kingston Mutual Aid Network has developed out of Kingston Resilience, a coalition of dozens of organizations with deep roots in the Kingston Community that came together seeking to fill the holes in the system which were made apparent as a result of COVID-19.
Kingston Mutual Aid Network is a call for volunteers, organizations, businesses and active community members to step into the roles of neighbors, supporting one another through shared resources.
How Does It Work?
Kingston community members are able to, both, express their needs as well as offer resources they would like to share by posting on the Kingston NY Mutual Aid Facebook page or by completing two different online forms - a request for support form and a providing support form.
A group of volunteers process requests or support and connect them to the appropriate volunteer or resources that will help to fulfill those needs.
Needs vary in nature - groceries, diapers, formula, gloves, cleaning supplies, etc. - and all needs are significant.
We Started with a Facebook Page
The page quickly evolved into a thriving community hub where needs can be posted and met quickly within a safe culture of support. Members exchange food and other essential items, like diapers clothing, or share helpful resources and start conversations about social action. A team of moderators encourage open and respectful dialogue and bridge connections between members to facilitate matches.
